MBTI - Myers Briggs Type Indicator
MBTI stands for "Myers-Briggs Type Indicator".
The MBTI is a proprietary questionnaire that was developed by the mother and daughter team of Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs-Myers.
The copyright for the MBTI is currently owned by Peter Briggs-Myers and Kathy Myers, son and (ex) daughter-in-law of Isabel Briggs-Myers.
The trademarks MBTI and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator are owned by Consulting Psychologists Press, Palo Alto, USA. (Trademarks and copyrights confer different rights - eg: owning the MBTI trademark gives CPP exclusive use of the trademark in producing the MBTI questionnaire materials). Oxford Psychologists Press have exclusive use of the trademark in the UK.
The theory and personality model, developed by Carl Gustav Jung and adapted by Katherine Briggs and Isabel Briggs-Myers, is not subject to the same set of restrictions. There are a number of alternative questionnaires to the MBTI that produce the same 'four-letter' code, such as the Personality Profiler, Jung Type Indicator, Psychological Type Indicator, Keirsey Temperament Sorter, and others.
Our MMDI questionnaire also produces the same code, as well as your unique personality profile.
